Wednesday, June 24th a group of community members met at Ellen Kort Peace Park for a hands-on Invasive Species educational practicum and invasives pull on the fast emerging native prairie restoration project. Andy Gilsdorf, owner of Prairie Revival and member of the Appleton Sustainability and Advisory Panel, led the session and shared his vast knowledge of invasives species control and removal. We learned some best practices for removing or arresting well-established invasives like Sweet Clover, Burdock, Birdsfoot Trefoil and Thistle and opened up the prairie planting for more of the native plants to thrive.
We are developing a volunteer collective of interested community members that want to help take care of the growing native pollinator habitats that are being added to our shared spaces around the Fox Cities.
Thanks to Pollenablers, Root Force, Prairie Revival and the City of Appleton for working together on our invasive plant pull.
