Pollinator pathways are pesticide-free corridors of native plants that provide habitat & nutrients for pollinators & other small wildlife. These pathways create an opportunity for people to engage with nature in a meaningful way & to contribute to beautiful, climate appropriate landscapes.

Pollinator Pathway Benefits

Pollinator Pathways: Networks of small, private, or public gardens (like backyard gardens or boulevards) that are pesticide-free and native plant-rich. It is a grass-roots, community-based movement that links these spots to create a “path” for pollinators.

Pollinator Corridors: Generally refers to a continuous “belt” or strip of land, such as a, prairie strip, or greenway designed to connect larger, separate natural habitats.

Key benefits of pollinator pathways:

  • Habitat Restoration & Connectivity: By linking small, fragmented green spaces like yards and parks, these pathways allow pollinators to travel safely between habitats to forage and nest.
  • Biodiversity Support: They support a wider variety of native pollinators, including endangered species, by providing diverse, chemical-free food sources.
  • Environmental & Climate Benefits: Native plants used in these pathways are typically drought-tolerant, reduce the need for pesticides and fertilizers, prevent soil erosion, and increase carbon sequestration.
  • Agricultural and Food Security: Pollinators directly support food production, with many local crops and wildflowers depending on them for survival.
  • Community Engagement: These projects provide educational opportunities and foster community engagement, allowing homeowners to turn lawns into “stepping stones” for wildlife.
