Prepping the Multicultural Coalition’s Community Garden with Community Foundation of the Fox Valley

On May 6th I was asked to lead a garden clean up and prep for planting with a work group from the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley region at the Multicultural Coalition’s community garden.

Maria Mason is the Multicultural Coalition’s garden steward and visionary. Maria shared with me some additional information about their community garden.

In the Multicultural Coalition’s garden we like to grow easily recognizable staples that can feed the diverse populations our organization serves.

Vegetables we grow; tomatoes, cucumbers, various peppers, and herbs will then be supplemented into our Bodega program and made available to our families.

We also work with the Oshkosh Seed Savers to grow some more culturally specific plants that have been acclimated to our region’s growing conditions.

In addition to our own garden, our friends at NEW HMong donate to our fresh produce offerings to ensure that folks using the Bodega as well as the Hope Fridge have access to fresh produce.

Popular veggies we like to grow for our community

Cilantro
Basil
Roma Tomatoes
Cherry Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Spinach
Bell Peppers,
Jalapeños
Thai Chilis
Zucchini

Volunteer in the Garden

You don’t need a green thumb to serve in this community garden! We need help building raised beds, watering and weeding plants, harvesting produce, and more!
