Today we would like you to meet one of the team members at Groundfloor Democracy, the Oshkosh non-profit that brings you Politics in the Park!
Get to know Emmy, one of the Ground volunteer board members. Emmy is Groundfloor democracy’s treasurer. She also does all the work to create Groundfloor’s digital media including designing flyers, templates for our social media posts, and posters.
What made you want to be a part of this project?
As a life-long Oshkosh resident, I wanted to be part of something that brings neighbors closer together. Groundfloor Democracy does exactly that- by creating opportunities for people to connect with each other and break down political barriers, we can build a stronger democracy. I’m excited to be part of that effort.
What shaped your political views?
I had the opportunity to travel as a volunteer when I was in school. I got to see first-hand the issues impacting Americans throughout the country, from natural disasters to homelessness. It taught me an important lesson: compassion requires action. That truth led me to a career in non-profits and it also shaped how I see politics. I believe our leaders should be measured not by what they say, but by what they do to advance the founders’ vision of liberty and justice for all.
What’s your favorite thing about Oshkosh?
There is so much to love! Enjoying some fresh air and the natural beauty at Menominee park is one of my favorite things to do. When I’m not at the park, you can find me camping, hiking, or watching sci-fi movies with my better half and our cats.
Thanks Emmy! We look forward to talking with you at Politics in the Park and other upcoming Groundfloor Democracy events.
