DESCRIPTION:Do you want your vote to count? That requires that we end gerrymandering in our state\, once and for all. \n\n\n\nGerrymandering has been a scourge on our WI politics ever since the Republicans drew the most partisan maps in the nation in 2011. Though the maps were redrawn in 2024\, gerrymandering remains very much an ongoing threat to our democracy. \n\n\n\nI’m glad to be a part of the North Appleton Outagamie Action Team (of the Democratic Party of Outagamie County) which will host a May 6 program on the proposed Independent Redistricting Commission. Find out how an Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) would take legislative and Congressional redistricting out of the hands of partisan politicians. It’s the answer to ending gerrymandering in WI. Former state Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber (member of the Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition) will explain how an Independent Redistricting Commission will work. State Senator Kristin Dassler-Alfheim will share how our state legislature is less effective because of our rigged gerrymandered maps.Why should you attend on May 6 if you agree that we need an IRC to end gerrymandering in Wisconsin?-We need to build broad support among our electorate so legislators and candidates see this as a campaign issue so candidates will commit to supporting the adoption of an IRC.-The more we understand about the proposal for an IRC\, the more confident we’ll be when we share the proposal with our friends and neighbors.-You’ll have an opportunity to write postcards to your state legislators to share your support for an IRC. \n\n\n\nPassing legislation in WI to institute an IRC is needed before the next census is taken in 2030. \n\n\n\nDetails: Wednesday\, May 6 from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm \n\n\n\nRoom C of the Mary Beth Nienhaus Room \n\n\n\nAppleton Public Library\, 200 N.
